This is where the now huge Mandalay Resort Group started out. Opened in 1968 as a casino, with the hotel being added later, Circus Circus was a departure from the standard Las Vegas casino in that it made an attempt to appeal to the family market. With it's permanent circus tent, featuring fair-ground games, as well as live circus performers, it made an instant appeal to people looking for a little more than simply a quick way to lose all their money.

With the addition of the indoor theme-park - Adventuredome, Circus Circus added another element to the make-up of Las Vegas, that despite having not really caught on (so far only the MGM Grand has attempted its own version - the not particularly impressive and now defunct Grand Adventures) has certainly caused a number of resorts (New York, New York, Sahara and Stratosphere to name three) to add roller-coasters or thrill rides of their own.
Although still impressive Circus Circus has gradually become the least glamorous of the company's resorts - indeed shortly after opening Mandalay Bay they even changed their name from Circus Circus to Mandalay Resort Group!
