Hmm, Caesar's Palace, the pinnacle of Las Vegas sophistication. Or is it? Unlike most of the resorts of it's era (Caesar's Palace was originally opened in 1966) Caesar's has survived the pull-down-and-rebuild mantra that has preoccupied most of the rest of the city. Instead they have continuously developed, expanded and redeveloped the resort, adding a shopping mall here, a new hotel tower there. The bulk of the buildings that comprise the hotel accommodation at Caesar's have been around since the '60s and until recently carried an exterior that was distinctly 1960's and distinctly un-Ancient Rome.
That situation has been impressively rectified with a dramatic make-over of the older hotel buildings so that the exterior matches that of the new hotel tower built in the 1990's. The interior of these blocks however represents an earlier era, and although plush they won't match the scale of the standard rooms at other resorts. My suggestion is spend the extra couple of bucks and get a room in the much newer Palace Tower. After all, you're staying at Caesar's Palace, so you may as well feel like a Roman Emperor!

When Caesar's expanded to include a 'shopping-mall' they started something rather special. The Forum Shops is no mere shopping-mall: The ceiling cloud scene turns from day into night and back every 20 minutes, whilst the fountains and statues (some of which move) stand guard. Then there is the Race for Atlantis - which is very cool and worth a look, although not quite as worth a visit as the Star Trek Experience at the Las Vegas Hilton. Other than that, there are lots of expensive shops (some of which come complete with staff with some very pretentious attitudes!), a gradually increasing number of 'regular' shops and a Planet Hollywood. Forum Shops set the standards for other Casino shopping areas. On personable preference I think that, not withstanding the underwhelming performance of the casino, the Desert Passage at Aladdin is newer, more varied and much more impressive!
Inside the Casino, whilst it's very grandiose and has a quiet sophistication it is getting somewhat disorganised - many small rooms with linking passages shows what can happen if you gradually (and continually) extend rather than just knocking the whole thing down and starting again!

Funny place, Las Vegas. All the casinos are designed so that you never know what time of day or night it is. Getting in is easy, huge neon signs proclaiming 'Our odds are best' and frequently moving walkway's (as at Caesar's) to ease you and your wheelbarrow of cash into the casino. Getting out is a different story. 'Exit' signs are small to say the least. And Caesars is the master of this art! At least you can now get out of the Forum Shops via the entrance (rather than just through the casino - as it used to be!) but finding your way out of the Casino is another story!!
If you do stay at Caesar's you'll get the opportunity to sample the absolutely stunning pool area. Here the theme of Ancient Rome is carried off to what looks like perfection. Of course I doubt the Romans had quite so much time for dozing in the sun drinking cocktails, but you get the idea!
