Wow! Steve Wynn has really pulled out the stops for Bellagio. Not content with having single-handedly created the 'mega-resort' with his first resort - Mirage and then having perfected the 'mega-theme' with Treasure Island, Mirage Resorts third Strip resort is a feast for the senses!
Well if you were wondering what Mr Wynn can do next, the answer is now clear - not build another casino, but sell out, lock-stock and barrel to MGM Grand. Oh well, Las Vegas will be a poorer place without him!
Opened in October 1998 on the site of the old Dunes (which was imploded on October 27th 1994) hotel, Bellagio (meaning literally beautiful lake) is based around a village of the same name in Italy. With Bellagio everything is finished to an incredible level of detail: the mosaic flooring is cracked and worn to look aged, the ventilation system pumps floral-scented air, the front-desk has a ceiling of hand-blown glass flowers!

One of the many non-gaming facilities at Bellagio is the Conservatory. Featuring wrought-ironwork and incredibly for Las Vegas a glass roof open to the sky the Conservatory is to be avoided if you suffer from pollen-related allergies! Thousands of flowers combine to create the most amazing area, assaulting the nose and eyes with wave upon wave of different smells and sights. Visitors seem stunned into an almost reverent silence by the effect of the place.
The Conservatory will be re-planted with each season to ensure that the flowers are always in full bloom. Above the Conservatory is decked out for Easter in whites and yellows, but expect a full rainbow of colours as time goes by.

The pool area at Bellagio is laid out like a classical garden, with rows of tall coniferous trees (not a palm in sight), pottery urns, and checkerboard paving. In many ways it's more Roman-esque than Caesars! In complete contrast to the fun-pools of Mandalay Bay this oozes sophistication from every floor-tile. You would quite expect to see a millionaire playboy lounging beside the pool before racing off over Lake Como!
Back inside it's the same story, everywhere you look Bellagio is more sophisticated than your average hotel, from the black outfits of the cocktail waitresses through the domed ceilings of the shopping arcade. Inside the hotel rooms the sophistication continues with marble and chrome everywhere you look in the bathroom, and a curtained head board to the bed. This is one hotel you'll want to come back to again and again!!

Outside, what looks simply like an 11-acre Lago erupts every fifteen minutes to provide the most awe-inspiring sight so far seen in Las Vegas. If you thought the volcano at the Mirage or the pirate battle at Treasure Island were something else, think again. It's almost impossible to put in to words how moving and impressive the Fountains of Bellagio really are.
Consisting of over a thousand fountains, many are directional, so for each performance they move like dancers in a chorus line, while others push water over 200 foot into the sky. The water is choreographed with light, and a whole selection of different musical accompaniment, from music from A Chorus Line to Frank Sinatra to Andrea Bocelli - 'Con te partiro' - which is almost Bellagio's theme music. If you are ever in Las Vegas you must see the fountains - and don't just go once!!
