Let's get this straight right from the start. The Venetian is one of the most impressive resorts in Las Vegas (and probably the world). While it arguably doesn't have the sophistication of Bellagio what the Venetian lacks in sophistication (although it doesn't lack much!) it more than makes up for with in your face, no holds barred, over the top glitz!

With 4,049 all-suite rooms (a first for the strip although the Rio was the first resort in Las Vegas to offer this facility) the main hotel tower is massive and imposing, and that concept continues everywhere else in the resort.

This for example is placed at the end of a corridor ('The Galleria') linking the casino with the Hotel check-in area - and serves no other purpose than to look the part!!!! Elsewhere it's the same story, with many of the real Venice's landmarks duplicated to perfection. The Casino is modelled on the Doges' Palace, with the main strip frontage being an exact scale replica of the frontage of the palace! The resort comes complete with a Campanile Tower, a St. Marks Square and a Rialto Bridge which serves as the entryway from the strip (although I doubt the original came with moving walkways!!!).

Inside the resort the Grand Canal Shoppes (interesting spelling….) continues the Las Vegas trend for providing shopping areas that are fantastically impressive in their own right. Although not beating the Desert Passage at Aladdin the Venetian's shops do have a unique feature of their own - a replica of the Grand Canal - complete with Gondolas - all on the third floor of the resort!

The Venetian has recently opened it's new hotel-within-a-hotel tower - the Venezia, adding an extra 1,013 all-suite rooms to it's existing 3,036. All of the 'standard' suite rooms (which are apparently the largest in the world!) feature marble foyers, two televisions, separate living and sleeping areas etc. The rooms in the Venezia tower (which has been built on top of the existing parking garage) are even more plush - although of similar size - with ceilings of 9 and a half feet (or about 2.9m in new money), and feature their own separate pool facilities. More impressive still are the top 5 floors of the new tower that feature 'concierge' service - a first for Las Vegas. Venezia was built at a cost of $275 million - which is on top of the $1.5 billion that was spent constructing the original resort! With 4,049 rooms the Venetian is now the 4th largest hotel in the world - after the MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay and Luxor just down the strip!
